Learning Maths at St Christopher’s is not just about passing exams; it is also about developing a passion for the subject, nurturing a love of problem solving and acquiring the fluency in fundamental skills which will allow students to progress to the next stage of their mathematical education with enthusiasm and confidence.

A growth mindset is at the heart of teaching Maths at St Christopher’s.  Progress in Maths is not pre-determined by natural ability and it is not true that some people “can’t do Maths”. With good teaching, consistent hard work and a growth mindset, all students, regardless of their starting point, can, and do, make significant progress.

We are proud of our strong record in Scholarship and Common Entrance exams and of the students who have won awards from Brighton College and other leading schools in the region, but we are equally proud of the students who struggled initially with Maths, but who have worked hard to master the core skills, and leave us full of confidence going into their senior schools.

St Christopher’s students enjoy taking part in various Maths Challenge events, competing with children throughout the country and against other schools in the region.
