Meet the team: Mr Carter

What better way to start our new section of the blog than by asking Mr Marcus Carter, our newest staff member and new Deputy Head Pastoral, a few questions so we can all get to know him a bit better!

……………………………..

  1. Where were you before you joined us? What was your job there?

I was previously at Handcross Park where I worked a number of roles. Most recently, I was Head of Boarding, English Teacher and Games Coach.

  2. How long have you been teaching?

I have been teaching for 11 years. I spent two years at a state school in West Sussex after finishing my PGCE, before joining Handcross Park.

  3. Which subjects have you taught, and what is your favourite subject to teach?

Due to the variety of roles in my career, I have taught most subjects (some better than others)! Have previously been a class teacher for Years 2, 3 and 5, as well as a specialist English teacher and a Games Coach. My favourite subject to teach would either be English, as you can be imaginative, or Games as I enjoy being active and outside.

  4. Do you have a family and/or pets? Tell us about them!

I live with my wife, our two children and our dog. My son is in Year 1 and my daughter has just turned 4 and will be starting Reception in September. We have a 20-month old Springer Spaniel who enjoys plenty of exercise!

  5. What made you want to join St Christopher’s?

Every prior interaction I had with someone from St Christopher’s was positive – whether it was pupils being exemplary when I coached teams against them during matches or staff being so friendly and welcoming whenever I came to visit. There is an undeniable warmth to the school and its community, so I jumped at the chance to join!

  6. What would be your Desert Island Book? Why?

Hard to choose just one, but I would probably opt for ‘Birdsong’ by Sebastian Faulks. Not the most uplifting of reads, but it is incredibly descriptive and moving.

  7. What is your speciality in the kitchen?

Either Smash Burgers or Pork Belly.

  8. What advice would you give our Upper School as they prepare for exams this term?

Run your own race! Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing – focus on what works for you and do what will help you to prepare best. Set little goals to look forward to – you have got to enjoy some free time in between revision.

  9. What are you most looking forward to this term?

Spending time getting to know the whole St Christopher’s community: pupils, parents and staff!
